When you’re right, you’re right; when you’re not right you’re wrong….as with Sunny Hostin on The View.
Hostin is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. She is married to surgeon Emmanuel Hostin. In January 2025, he was among 199 defendants accused of insurance fraud in a civil lawsuit filed under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act in New York.
Let me be clear, as with many situations being charged isn’t the same as convicted, but I’m pointing out a scenario that exists. And I’m concerned about possible repercussions, retributions or collateral damage to one of my favorite shows. I would also like to point out that gossip YouTube account Uncensored Insight claimed The View and Sunny Hostin were being sued for $100 million, which Elizabeth Randolph reports is untrue.[1] Pay attention to where you get your news.
Hostin, one of the principal members of the award-winning show, The View, is also being considered as part of the investigation. Is there a connection? I don’t know. I do know Hostin has also been a federal prosecutor.
I know there are a lot of things that many want to talk about. Things that are more urgent than a TV show I like. Things like democracy, that’s important too. But life has many lanes and many of us travel on similar highways. Mistakes made without forgiveness or failure to take time to focus on everyday issues that matter is important. To me this matters and is important to me. The future of The View matters to me, and how ABC will handle this situation matters to me. Especially as I view the capitulations of the LA Times and Washington Post, I wonder what will happen.
They say when you live in glasshouses you shouldn’t throw stones. They also say where there’s smoke there is also fire. In the case of Hostin, it appears both may apply. The View has not been without scenarios where hosts have been reprimanded or suspended. But the show, in its 27th season, brainchild of Barbara Walters in 1997. It has been a well-received and critically acclaimed addition to morning viewing. I just wonder what will happen.
I have said before that of all the members of the celebrated group of women, Hostin has been my least favorite. Her air of self-righteous indignation never sat well with me. Perhaps there was a reason I felt that way. Sometimes people forget who they are and elevate themselves to a point where they think others are beneath them. That can signal something. Many of us are told growing up we “are known by the company we keep,” and it appears Hostin’s turmoils may affect the entire show. That would be tragic.
I love this show. I’m especially a fan of Sarah Haines and Whoopi, but when the yardstick you are using to measure others has been compromised or broken, it might time to fix it, get a new one, or move on! Sad.
I hope The View survives, but as I’ve said Karma is a bitch.
