When will MAGA put their dogs on a leash? Kitiki #628
Know better? Then do better
“But MAGA ain’t ashamed of shit!“[1]
Don’t believe me. See what shit they are doing, particularly as it pertains to voting. And the reaction in the community? Civil rights leaders Rev. Al Sharpton, Martin Luther King III and his wife Arndrea Waters, alongside the NAACP, National Urban League, National Council of Negro Women, LULAC, labor unions, clergy, voting-rights groups and members of Congress have announced the “March on Washington 2026: Defend the Vote scheduled to go down on August 28, which is the 63rd anniversary of the famous 1963 March on Washington.[2] Will this make a difference, especially in front of a reflecting pool that’s been shamelessly purloined to reflect more of the corrobative corruption in Washington? I don’t think the people can continue to stand the stink.
The march is in opposition to the gutting of the Voting Rights Acts of 1965. This is in opposition to the rights guaranteed to many by the constitution. This is in opposition and a prayer that this is a country “of, for and by the people,” will not perish. But people are scared as shit of MAGA’s shamelessly saying they want to “make America great again.” They don’t. And for those of you who continue to think that people like me suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome wake up. Wake up and release the Epstein files. Wake and admit Biden won the 2020 presidential election.[3] Wake up and fly the American flag and not a Trump Won 2020 or Stars and Bars. Wake up and think, where does it begin so we can put a stop to it.
There are so many full of righteous indignation during this time of turmoil in our country. I’m angry and can decide if I want to fight or cry. The bullies are out and I want to go at them full throttle. They attack women, gays, blacks and immigrants without shame. Full of hate. Images on the screen reminiscent of the dogs and water hoses of the 60s.
Makes me want to gather full baskets of eggs and anything else and throw them at those who would shit on the constitution and do it blatantly because they are in power. They are in charge and flaunt it with police batons and guns too ashamed to show their faces. They are, most of all, unashamedly greedy, following a greedy visage[4] and would do anything to keep their knees on the throat of anybody who would challenge them. I want to challenge the bastards with an onslaught of invectives that would make the devil cringe. And as I think of that vile attitude, I make a “Hard Stop.” I center myself and wonder how they managed to pull so many down. I look at my hands. I think about what my hands could do. I look at my feet and wonder what would they trample. I look at my face, starkly in the mirror and see a horrid sight as I ask myself. How did I become this? Who am I? How did I get in the swamp with these animals?

The pain and the shame are overwhelming. The thoughts of “how could I” shatter me to my knees. And then I cry. I become ashamed.
I cry for forgiveness. I cry for hope. I cry for America as I then pull myself up and resolve that’s not me. It’s never too late to do the right thing. They will not pull me down to their level as I stand up and start wading out of the murky waters I’ve willingly walked into. I resolve that I am better, if for no other reason my mirror is still together. It was not broken. It gave me a full picture of the me I was, and the one I was becoming and alongside a quote “do the best you can until you know better; when you know better, do better.”
Tears dried with the reflection of what I could be if I let myself go, I challenge myself to do the right thing with the same ferocity I was willing to do the wrong thing. Certain things come to mind. Certain things that will not be remembered by some who read this. They’ll stop before the crying. They’ll stop reading before the forgiving. They’ll stop before I reached the part of saying “when you know better, do better.” They will lie, rather than keep the context that I want America to be better. I want to be better for a better America. The memories that come to mind for a better America flood in an attempt to wash away my sins.
Memories come to mind of what America once was before Lindsay became who he was at the end. Memories come to mind of how I was raised. Memories of before I was a parent, and after I became a grandparent and the America, I would want my grandson to inherit—freedom and justice for all. Memories of how I wanted to destroy but realize I’m part of finding ways to unite with friends on the other side of the aisle come to mind. All these images rush forward and save me. Most of all is the memory “I am a good person.” And the most sought-after memories of all? The memory of the people I know are good but are perhaps as ashamed as I was to admit for a moment we forgot, it’s not about us. It’s about America. It’s about truth. It’s about doing the right things, and realizing, “when you know better, do better.”
